Architectural Tours - Annual Summer Charabanc Trip - Essex

19 June

Royal Corinthian Yacht Club by Joseph Emberton

The annual summer charabanc trip will be through fascinating Essex to visit a little bit of Czechoslavakia, the truly unique Bataville, outpost of the Bat’a shoe empire at East Tilbury. Here in 1936 an ideal community was founded complete with a factory, housing and supporting infrastructure. The economics have changed but much of the dream lives on and it is planned to meet local residents and visit some buildings. Then we will continue our way to a little known momo house fashioned on Villa Savoie by Wells Coates. And finally we will visit Joseph Emberton’s famous Royal Corinthian Yacht Club at Burnham. It is planned to visit other interesting buildings along the way.
